Crossing Country Line by Line
Remember National Poetry Month (NPM) at YARN last year? Nikki Grimes, Samantha Schutz, Elana Foreman, and Jacqueline Jules. PLUS the NPM Poetry Drive (be sure to read the Comments, below). Whew.
Well, our Poetry Editor Colleen is outdoing herself again this year, with an awesome NPM event called “Crossing the Country Line by Line.”
What does that mean? Well, we’ve commissioned notable poets from across the country to write new poems on the theme of “Crossings.” (Does Terra Elan McVoy ring any bells? She’s representing Georgia. Oh, and we have we have Gibson Fay-LeBlanc repping Maine, and Annie Boochever for Alaska, and Todd Boss for Minnesota, and that’s just the BEGINNING!)
As if that weren’t cool enough, our poets are each crossing state lines to invite other poets to write poems in response to their own poems, and so on, creating a genetic lineage of poems crisscrossing the country. By “poet-sourcing” we’ll see where the poems lead us – to all 50 states? Stay tuned as we post our poets’ progress throughout the month of April.
