We are so incredibly excited to announce that YA novelists Kate Burak and Diana Renn will be joining the YARN team!
“Emily’s Dress and Other Missing Things” weaves Claire’s narration with Emily Dickinson’s poetry together to tell the story of what happened when Claire’s best friend, Richy, went missing. The novel is an Independent Booksellers New Voices selection for Fall 2012. Kate was first published at the age of seven when the local radio station in Mt. Carmel, Pennsylvania, read her letter to Santa on air and now teaches writing at Boston University. She has an MFA in poetry from the University of Massachusetts.
Kate Burak is not the only exciting new addition to the YARN Team.
Diana Renn will be joining us as Fiction Editor in February. You probably remember Diana because we published her short story “Crime Scenes” in conjunction with the release of her first YA novel “Tokyo Heist” from Viking/Penguin. “Tokyo Heist,” which was selected for the Summer 2012 Kids’ Indie Next List, follows sixteen-year-old Violet as she attempts to solve the mystery of the Yamada family’s stolen van Gogh sketches. Renn does not plan to stop taking readers into her mysteries anytime soon, and she has another book due out in 2014. Renn, who earned her M.A. in English and American Literature from Brandeis University, has taught ESL, writing, and literature, and worked in educational publishing, said that she is thrilled that YARN has become a part of her life.
Kate is taking the place of Colleen Oakley, who–we are sad to say–has stepped down after a great run. She has been with YARN since the beginning, and will be missed! Kerri is handing Fiction over to Diana after editing that section herself for years–but now she needs to devote more time to YARN as an organization.
