I am the girl
Running with the pink pashmina
Flying behind me
Like I am super-she
With a bubblegum wand
And the magic shoes
That will take me away from here.
I am the one
Tapping my fingers
On the steering wheel,
Singing loud
And feeling the song,
When you are not there to hear me.
That is me,
Spinning in circles
on the front lawn,
feeling the sun on my face
And the wind in my hair,
Wishing someone
Would step forward
To hold my hand
And remind me
I do not ever have
to dance alone.

I don’t want you
to like me.
I want you to like me

Poem in the Paper

There is no poem in this paper.
The blue lines
lie blank –
lie to me
like fossils on the page…
places where I can see
faint outlines,
words that could somehow be
if I were to write them –
if I could believe
in the poem in this paper.

HeatherPicHeather Truett got mistaken for a high-schooler while working as a substitute teacher last week, but she is actually a thirty-something mother of boys, pastor’s wife, and writer. She is represented by Peter Knapp of New Leaf Literary.

  1. I love these!! My favorite is perhaps “Poem in the Paper” but I love the imagery in “Super-She” and the emotion in “Best.”

  2. Linda Mitchell says:

    Love these poems…..my favorite parts….

    “like me best”
“there is no poem in this paper”
